Our company will hand write on our "Verbal Confirmation" form, everything they believe they were directed by the General Contractor to perform for a change. We have the General Contractor review this form and sign it before we proceed. This helps keep everyone on track and takes the verbal direction to a written direction for documentation and future reference.

An excellent practice. That way you know at the outset whether you have a written directive or a disagreement.

If the delay was though "no fault" of the sub-contractor then a written directive should have been sought. Without written directive, the sub moves along at his own peril
